Chemical Tea Room present – 0.1 the first CTR group show

Chemical Tea Room are proud to announce 0.1, the very first full group exhibition of works by it’s collective artists. The exhibition is the first opportunity to see the collective together in one place presenting coherent bodies of work. It promises to be an exciting show for all involved. We would like to invite you to attend our opening night on Thursday 14th October 2010 at The Continental, South Meadow Lane, Preston, Lancashire.

Included in the show are works by Brian Morrison, Graham Hallam, Victoria Haydn and Rob Rusling.

Brian Morrison’s – Our Aim Is To Survive

In Brian Morrison’s series Our Aim Is To Survive, we are presented with an activity that bears the brunt of all the attached stereotypes relating to firearms. Morrison documents a local gun club in Blackpool, Lancashire, searching for what lay beyond the stereotype. What Morrison finds and presents us with is a world that is far removed from the media’s portrayal of “gun culture” so commonly attached to those who use firearms.

Graham Hallam’s – Heel

The relationship between man and dog is one that stems right back as far as all recorded history. Man and dog have always found new ways to co-exist to the betterment of one and other. Principal to this connection has been a working relationship. Whether it is working as hunters or as farmers, humans and dogs have found ways to work together. In the UK, bans on fox hunting and other such activities may make one feel that this working relationship is coming to an end and that the relationship between the two species is now relinquished to that of domestication and the idea of a pet. However in Graham Hallam’s series Heel we see how this working relationship still exists

Victoria Haydn’s- Laughter and Tears

For thousands of children throughout the UK, foster care is their only chance to experience some normality in their lives. Without foster homes many of these children would continue to suffer in silence. This work documents the space that foster children inhabit whilst in their foster homes. Personal space whilst in care is vital and can be a saviour for a great number of children. Personal items within the bedroom allow the children to feel part of something, and in turn create a sanctuary, in which they can place their trust and gain a sense of ‘home’.

Rob Rusling’s- A Street In Clitheroe

In Britain we are fortunate to live in a place that has an extremely vibrant multi-culture. However there are times, even now when this is not something that is seen as fortunate or vibrant, and is instead fought off by those who claim to be ‘of this land’. This work tackles this issue head on as it is acted out, documenting the struggle of the small Muslim community and those who support them in Clitheroe, a small town in Lancashire. In particular, A Street in Clitheroe looks at their struggle to build their mosque or indeed to simply have the right to pray in their hometown. Their struggle is one that has lasted nearly four decades and is only now truly at a real start.
